DPP- Deferred Prosecution Programs/First Time Offenders (Tarrant County)

In the 1970’s the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office formerly implemented one of the oldest known diversion program in the state. The Deferred Prosecution Program, otherwise known as DPP for short, allows certain offenders to enter a special program for a second chance.

This program is offered in the first place to low risk individuals between the ages of 17-21. There are other criteria that an individual must meet so it is best to contact an attorney quickly. In Tarrant County only your attorney can recommend an individual for this program in particular. The deadlines for DPP are very short and there are other specific requirements before someone is admitted into the Deferred Prosecution Program (DPP). Call The Carreras Law Group, P.C. attorney straightaway for your free consultation to find out how the firm can help.

If an applicant is above the age of 24, he/she shall not be considered for this program. Apart from that, the applicant would be disqualified if he/she has been a member of mental health priority group. Additionally, any previous participation in DPP or conviction or any sort of supervision for offenses (Class B), the applicant shall stand disqualified.

Besides that, any offense that is committed after the first arrest or while serving the bond stands disqualified. Also, placing anyone in danger or injuring the other person during the course of the offense will disqualify for DPP program.

Apart from this, there is another initiative for offenders more than 25 years of age and it’s known as DPI or Deferred Prosecution Initiative. Undoubtedly, DPI is designed in such as way that gives a second chance to first-time offenders through deferred prosecution. Inevitably, this initiative offers a unique alternative approach, especially to the offenders rather than going for traditional criminal prosecution.
