DPP- Deferred Prosecution Programs/First Time Offenders (Tarrant County)
In the 1970’s the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office implemented one of the oldest known diversion programs in the state. The Deferred Prosecution Program, otherwise known as DPP for short, allows certain offenders to enter a special program for a second chance.
This program is offered to low risk individuals between the ages of 17-21. There are other criteria that an individual must meet so it is best to contact an attorney quickly. In Tarrant County only your attorney can recommend an individual for this program. The deadlines for DPP are very short and there are other specific requirements before someone is admitted into the Deferred Prosecution Program (DPP). Call The Carreras Law Group, P.C. attorney now for your free consultation to find out how the firm can help.
Pre-Trial Diversions/First Time Offenders
Tarrant County currently offers eight unique specialty programs. It is the mission of these programs to divert defendants from traditional judicial avenues through counseling, mentorship, or providing the opportunity to correct a one-time mistake. Below you will find a brief explanation or mission statement of the programs offered and their contact information.
First Offender Drug Program
You must complete an application within 90 days of your case filing. The First Offender Drug Program is a limited-supervision program for first-time drug offenders that would be considered a “self-corrector”.
Veterans Court Diversion Program
The mission of The Carreras Law Group, P.C. is to successfully divert Justice Involved Veteran (JIV) from the traditional criminal justice system and provide them with the tools they need to lead a productive and law-abiding lifestyle.
Domestic Violence Diversion Program
The Domestic Violence Diversion Program targets domestic violence, or violence between intimate partners. Selected defendants charged with family violence in Tarrant County Criminal Court No. 5 are placed into the pre-trial diversion court which monitors the defendant’s progress in a non-adversarial manner, and is in lieu of traditional case processing.
Youthful Offender Diversion Alternative Program
YODA is an alternative to standard pre-trial diversion programs for family assaults presented in Criminal Court No. 5. This program provides counseling and case management to youthful offenders aged 17-25, who have been arrested for assault against a non-intimate family member.
Mental Health Court Diversion Program
The mission of the Mental Health Court Diversion Program is to identify mentally impaired offenders, to expedite them through the criminal justice system.
Reaching Independence through Self-Empowerment Program
The vision of the RISE program is that every woman reaches her full potential and lives a healthy, productive, drug free and non-criminal lifestyle.
Other Behavioral Intervention with Assault Non-family (OBI WAN) Program
OBI WAN is an extension of the YODA program for defendants with simple assault cases involving persons who are not family members up to the age of 25.
Felony Alcohol Intervention Program
The Tarrant County Felony Alcohol Intervention Program (FAIP) is a post adjudication program for the high-risk repeat DWI offender. FAIP provides consistent and lengthy structure allowing the offender to benefit from the treatment experience.

The Opinions That Matter Most
Very professional, very honest, I really recommend them. (Original) Muy profesional muy honesta en verdad se las recomiendo 👍🏻
Most reviews are a collection of flowery endorsements that read well but carry little weight. I don’t do flowery. I’m a 68 year old man who does not like lawyers, most doctors and 99% of all politicians. I get along better with a good dog than most people, I have never been on Facebook and have never “tweeted”. I own a flip phone that I answer only when it suits me. I have served our country as a proud member of the military police during Vietnam and I normally do not do testimonials but in this case I will make an exception. If asked for my opinion you will get the brutal truth, whether you want it or not. Ms. Carreras has proven to be an exception to the rule. She handled a relatively minor legal matter for me and drove it to successful completion in record time. She is a person of exceptional character and a consummate professional, which is a rare thing indeed in the litigation community. If you are in need of the best and someone who cares about your legal well being, you cannot employ a more competent litigator that shows wisdom well beyond her years.
I cannot thank Ms. Carreras enough! The time, effort and personal commitment she took to resolve a family legal situation went far beyond our expectations. She not only got the charges reduced but in the end was able to have the entire case dismissed. We forever owe you a debt of gratitude !
Both my fiance and I were charged with the same bogus charges and Ms. Carreras swiftly dealt with my fiance’s case in two appearances! My lawyer on the other hand didn’t do his job and after 9 months of dragging his feet the DA talked with Ms. Carreras the week before trial was to begin and she convinced them to dismiss my case as well! If I EVER need a lawyer again I will be calling Ms. Carreras!!!!
Kara Carreras is such a great attorney. She really dug deep into my case to find all the necessary details. Kara got me off of a charge that didn’t seem possible. I would definitely recommend her to anyone. And will never use anyone else!
By far Kara Carreras is the best attorney myself or my family has dealt with. She treated us like family. She consistently kept me updated as to what was going on without me even having to call her. She went that extra mile for us and I can never thank her enough for her kindness, compassion, and thoroughness of the job she did for us. If I could give her 10 stars I would!!
