DPP- Deferred Prosecution Programs/First Time Offenders (Tarrant County)

Particularly, in the 1970’s, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office implemented this diversion program in the state. Without a doubt, the Deferred Prosecution Program is also known as DPP.  In fact, this allows certain offenders to enter for a second chance.

Indeed, this program is offered to low risk individuals for the ages 17-21. However, there are other criteria that an individual must meet. Also, it is best to contact an attorney. Undoubtedly, your attorney can recommend an individual for this program. Furthermore, the deadlines for DPP are very short. Also, there are other specific requirements. Moreover, if an applicant is above the age of 24, he/she shall not be considered for this program. Indeed, the applicant would be disqualified if he is a member of mental health priority group. Additionally, any previous participation in DPP or conviction against the applicant shall make him stand disqualified.

Additionally, any offense that’s committed after the first arrest or while serving the bond stands disqualified. Also, placing anyone in danger during the course will disqualify for DPP program.

Though, there is another initiative for offenders more than 25 years of age. And, it’s known as DPI or Deferred Prosecution Initiative. Undoubtedly, DPI gives a second chance to first-time offenders through deferred prosecution. Indeed, this initiative offers a unique alternative approach. Especially, to the offenders rather than going for traditional criminal prosecution.

In general, Tarrant County currently offers eight unique specialty programs. Albeit, it is the mission of these programs to divert defendants from traditional judicial avenues. Indeed, it is done through counseling, mentorship. Without a doubt, this program provides an opportunity to correct a one-time mistake. Furthermore, below you will find a brief explanation of the programs offered.

In fact, you must complete an application specifically within 90 days of your case filing. Indeed, the First Offender Drug is a limited-supervision program. The best part is, it's  applicable for first-time offenders. Also, this would be considered a “self-corrector” particularly.

Veterans Court Diversion Program

The DVD Program targets domestic violence or violence between intimate partners. OBI WAN is an extension of the YODA program. Importantly, designed, for defendants with simple assault cases. Thus, involving persons who are not family members. Also, this program is for the offenders up to the age of 25.

The Tarrant County Felony Alcohol Intervention Program (FAIP) is a post-adjudication program. Indeed, designed for the high-risk repeat DWI offenders. FAIP provides a consistent and lengthy structure of program. Thus, allowing the offender to benefit from the treatment experience.
